Looking back at…Great Expectations

Some of our members saw Cyphers theatre company perform Marcus J Bazley’s adaptation of Great Expectations, and jumped at the opportunity to work with them to produce the show as a serialised audio drama. It was a huge undertaking, particularly for our talented sound technician and designer, Andrew Crane, who created all of the soundscapes and effects from scratch. The results speak for themselves, and this project was a fantastic jumping off point for the audio dramas we would go on to produce.

For the first show back into 2017 Iasha is joined by Matt and a very new voice to the show, Sinead Burniston, a fellow Holloway graduate and theatre lover.

Matt reviews the Lego Batman film, we hark back to some old conversations from 2016 including a run down of Harry Potter and The Cursed Child, how bad Suicide Squad was and Iasha talks musicals and lack of tap with Half a Sixpence.

Next show Matt’s reviewing Fifty Shades Darker, and if there is a show not to miss this year, it’s that one. So much awkward.

This week on The Blackshaw Arts Hour, Iasha is joined by Matt and Vikki in the studio.

Matt review The Nice Guys starring Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling and we discuss what other movies are out there where the lead characters don’t actually “learn anything”.
We here a piece of new writing by Rosie Marsh called An Unexpected Guest. Starring Angela Ferns and Emily Rae, recording live at The Horse and Stables.
Vikki brings us a live arts thing of the week. We discuss Adam Drivers Ted Talk and the brilliant work he is doing bringing theatre to American Marines in various places around the world.
Corey Hulls explains the different stages of a night out in his essay, “The Nine Stages of Drinking” and we discuss the ‘colourful’ TONY awards from last week and the huge success of musical ‘Hamilton’.

This week on the show, Iasha brings you The Blackshaw Arts Hour minus her regular co-hosts.

Matt, Vikki and Nick review the Grand Budapest Hotel and we hear a very funny question from Helen Johnson posed to our cast and crew of Staying Alive at the beginning of the year.

Richard Stratton told us his three top spooky experiences ranging from childhood all the way though to present day, a story that featured in Blackshaw’s Scare Slam last year.

Next up on the show was Beige, a piece of new writing by Dan Weatherer, performed by Richard Malado and Hayley Marie Axe and Directed by Catherine Lord at one of our regular New Writing Nights at the Horse and Stables in Lambeth.

The Blackshaw Arts Hour – Episode 39

This week in on the show, Matt and Ellie join Iasha in the studio to talk all things Wandsworth Arts Fringe, as it opened officially last Friday.

We heard Helen Johnson interview Matt Hopwood who is putting on an immersive audio-visual storytelling show called A Human Love Story in the arches of Putney Bridge. You can go along and see Matt’s show on the 21st and 22nd of May as a part of WAF.

Matt reviewed Captain America: Civil War, after having seen it as part of a triple bill, which we thought was a very good effort!

We heard Ellie and the cast of Black Shuck (which opens this Wednesday the 11th!) talking to Lesley Strachan about the show and why you should come along and see it. Don’t forget to get your tickets here!

Vikki bought us her Arts Thing of the Week, which was a review of Bug, starring James Norton and Kate Fleetwood, which she and Ellie saw at Found111 on Charing Cross Road.
