Looking back at…Great Expectations

Some of our members saw Cyphers theatre company perform Marcus J Bazley’s adaptation of Great Expectations, and jumped at the opportunity to work with them to produce the show as a serialised audio drama. It was a huge undertaking, particularly for our talented sound technician and designer, Andrew Crane, who created all of the soundscapes and effects from scratch. The results speak for themselves, and this project was a fantastic jumping off point for the audio dramas we would go on to produce.

ANNOUNCEMENT: Podcast format changing after our 100th Episode

**Announcement Klaxon**

As of Feb 2019, we will be ceasing to broadcast our ‘magazine’ style podcast every fortnight. Instead, we will be focusing our energies on producing more audio drama.  As we wind down (or up?) to our 100th episode of the podcast, the next few months’ programming looks like this…

This week on the show Iasha is joined by Matt and Andy.

Matt reviews 10 Cloverfield Lane and we also chat about London Has Fallen. Andy is in the studio to talk to us about the last episode of Great Expectations and the challenges and he faced during the course of this project.

The Blackshaw Arts Hour – Episode 35

Iasha is joined in the studio this week by regulars Matt and Alex along with new voice, Nick Tatchell. Nick works with us at Blackshaw and is our responsible for the funding and partnership aspects of the theatre company.
At the top of the show Matt reviews partly crowd-funded independent film Nina Forever and we discussed what’s coming up in the next film review. Get over to twitter and tweet us your suggestions!
Vikki gave us her first Arts Thing of the Week, this week, multiple arts things and we discussed what we’re all looking forward to the most for 2016.
(seeing) Black Shuck is Blackshaw’s next production coming up in May. Alex is going to be performing in this new piece of writing and we chatted about what the play is about and also a very windy photo shoot that took place last weekend on the shores of Whitstable in Kent.

This week on the show Iasha is joined by Matt who reviews Deadpool and we talk about a new twitter feed that popped up this week called @femscriptintros.

We listened to a live recording from a Blackshaw New Writing Night last year call ed Trick or Treat and also urged any of you with a half finished (or finished) play out there to submit it to our Showcase New Writing night coming up at the end of March. Get your submissions in here!

Helen brought us this weeks Arts Thing of the Week in the absence of Vikki. She spoke about the proposed ‘Garden Bridge’ and in turn the inconsistencies and bureaucracy surrounding funding for the arts across the country.

This week on the show Iasha is joined in the studio by Matt and Helen. Matt kicks things off with a review of Creed and then we discuss Oscar nominations. Iasha talks about The Revenant and we discuss the next film review coming up in a fortnight.

As this is the first live show of 2016 for The Blackshaw Arts Hour, Helen takes us through an Arts Thing of the Year. We talk about all the amazing things coming up this year from theatre at The National to exhibitions and cabaret. Keep an eye on the blog for Helen’s wrap up linking you to all these fantastic events. 

We heard a new writing night piece written by Kat Roberts called Age UK performed at one of Blackshaw’s New Writing Nights last year. 

Up next was Episode 3 of Great Expectations, our co-production with Cyphers Theatre.
